The offence of abetment presupposes the presence of a third person in between the object of the offence and himself i.e. the offender (abettor). Therefore, it will be normally difficult to prove the direct liability of abettor, and that too when it is also known that it was the abettor who was actually behind the offence and therefore the punishment should be the same as if he himself had committed the offence.
As a result the offence of abetment was created. In this offence it is also the intention of law to move a step further and stop the commission of the offence before it is actually committed.
